DESCRIPTION:
"A communicative tenderness for the states of mind of the human being."
In his paintings, Ralf Altrieth lets the forms emerge and transform as the gesture flows, in a free and spontaneous movement. The figures often appear fleetingly, as if hesitating between being and disappearing.
The image forms through superpositions; the elements seem to float, respond to each other, intertwine, creating a living and open visual space.
The title is generally added afterward. It hints at a lead, a narrative, poetic, or sometimes simply humorous dimension, never confining the image to a single interpretation.
Museum director and art historian Dr. Friedhelm Häring describes Ralf Altrieth’s pictorial universe as follows:
"There is a lot of poetry in this painting, as in all the works of this artist. They are populated with narrative codes and fantastical tales. In this sense, Ralf Altrieth’s pictorial poems are a pure childlike chant... But the most astonishing aspect manifesting in these canvases is a communicative tenderness for the states of mind of the human being."
An expressive work that immediately catches the eye and gradually reveals all its richness.
