Pancho Porto (Santiago de Compostela, 1988) began his training in the specialty of artistic cabinetmaking at the Antonio Failde center in Ourense. At this school he first encountered disciplines such as carving, drawing, or modeling, and, most importantly, working in the workshop.
Later he enrolled in the Mestre Mateo School of Arts and Trades in Santiago de Compostela, where he studied what would become his main discipline: sculpture. It is at this school where he began to work with materials that would be fundamental in his work, such as steel or clay. Parallel to this, Porto continued his personal study and explored other materials such as bronze or resins and their multiple uses and finishes, ultimately choosing bronze and steel as the definitive materials for his works.
After this first stage of training, he decided to establish his workshop on the banks of the Sarela river, very close to the place where he was born. It is here that he begins his particular theoretical and practical investigation into the relationship between the materials used in each work and the message they convey. This leads him to seek new proposals for communicating and narrating his story. Since then, this has been the usual tone of his works, endowing the whole body of his work with complexity and depth, addressing themes that touch both social issues and his personal experiences.
