Tsongkhapa (1357-1419) is one of the most influential figures in Tibetan Buddhism and the founder of the Gelug school, also known as the "Yellow Hat School".
Who was Tsongkhapa? Born Lobsang Drakpa in East Tibet, he showed extraordinary intelligence from a young age. He studied under more than 100 masters and mastered all the major Buddhist traditions of his time.
Based on his deep knowledge, he reformed Tibetan Buddhism.
Main contributions:
Founder of the Gelug school: Emphasized monastic discipline, study, and ethics
Reforms: Restored purity to monastic practices and scholastic traditions
Writings: Wrote important works on Madhyamaka philosophy and tantra
Ganden Monastery: Founded the Ganden Monastery in 1409, the main monastery of the Gelug tradition
