Original 2023 oil painting on canvas by Le Yack, titled New York Rooftop, a unique 60 × 60 cm work signed by hand, produced in France.
Description from the seller
Oil painting. Unique work. Hand-painted canvas, oil paint and acrylic. 60x60 cm
On a brick rooftop terrace above Manhattan, two elegant women contemplate the skyline. One in a white coat, black gloves, beige hat — in profile, leaning on the parapet. The other with her back to us, wearing a powder-blue suit, a matching hat. The Empire State Building dominates the horizon. A rusty water tower punctuates the right side of the composition. The light is that of a New York autumn afternoon — cold, precise, unforgiving.
Le Yack paints New York in the 40s-50s with the precision of a witness and the nostalgia of someone who wasn’t there. These two women do not speak to each other — they look at the same city from their own silence. It is a painting about silent complicity, about sharing a panorama as a form of intimacy.
