I. Arias is a contemporary artist whose pictorial practice centers on exploring the human figure from an introspective and symbolic sensitivity, with a particular focus on oil underwater painting. Her work has transcended the local sphere, taking part in exhibitions and events in various international contexts, with presence in countries such as Spain, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, Mexico, as well as in various cities in the United States.
Throughout her career, she has been recognized with awards and distinctions that support the solidity of her artistic proposal and her commitment to a coherent and continually evolving visual language. Her work sits at a convergence between the technical and the emotional, building images that address the human condition from an intimate perspective, where the body and the environment become vehicles of meaning.
“Quietud” (Stillness) explores that suspended state in which the intensity of the outer world loses force and experience becomes internal. Through the underwater environment, the work constructs a space where the body does not struggle, but surrenders to a different dynamic: slower, denser, more conscious. The pressure does not disappear, but transforms into containment; the noise does not cease, but dissolves.
Water acts as a sensory and emotional filter. It envelops, damps, and reconfigures perception, generating a state where the chaotic ceases to be invasive and begins to be perceived from a distance. In that displacement, the figure finds a form of balance: not based on control, but on acceptance.
This oil work stands out for its mastery of contemporary impressionism, using energetic and textured brushstrokes to capture the transient nature of moving water. The artist achieves a dynamic composition where the female figure blurs beneath the surface, allowing the refraction of light to break apart the forms in an explosion of complementary colors: deep turquoises against oranges and warm reds of the clothing. The painter’s intention seems to reside in exploring the duality between weight and weightlessness, turning a everyday moment of immersion into a nearly abstract sensory experience. Through the strategic use of light bubbles and distorted reflections in the upper part, the work conveys a profound sense of serene isolation and renewal, inviting the viewer to experience the visual and sonic distortion that only the underwater world can offer.
