Description from the seller

Cornelius Tacitus’ Works – 1595 Edition
A rare late 16th-century edition of the works of Publius Cornelius Tacitus, one of the foremost authors of Latin historiography. The volume gathers fundamental texts such as the Annals and Histories, offering a sharp political and moral analysis of the Roman Empire in the early centuries AD.
Format in-16 (10.5 × 6 cm); pp. 675, (23). Elegant compact edition, originally intended for reading and study, characterized by refined typographic ornaments and a clear layout.
Contemporary full-leather binding, with wear and losses to the spine and boards; authentic specimen, with antique patina. Internal pages complete, with widespread browning and signs of time, but overall well preserved and legible, with signs of handling at the bottom and end of the book (see photo).
Presence of an old handwritten ownership signature that increases its historical interest.
Sixteenth-century editions of Tacitus, especially in small portable formats, are today difficult to find on the antique book market. Valuable testimony to the humanistic diffusion of Latin classics, it represents a lot of great interest for collectors and scholars of ancient books.
