Title:
Collection of 9 Bound Volumes of Punch, or The London Charivari – 1847–1852 – Victorian Satirical Magazine
Description:
A collection of 9 original bound volumes of the famous British satirical magazine Punch, or The London Charivari, dating from 1847 to 1852, the golden era of Victorian satire.
These volumes contain a rich variety of political cartoons, humorous illustrations, and social commentary, reflecting mid-19th century British society. The works include numerous full-page engravings and detailed caricatures in the style associated with artists such as John Tenniel and his contemporaries.
The volumes are bound in original or near-contemporary bindings, featuring embossed covers and gilt decoration. The interiors are generally well-preserved, with clear and sharp impressions of the illustrations.
Condition:
Overall in fair to good antique condition. The bindings show visible wear consistent with age, including rubbing, scuffing, and some damage to the spines. The pages are generally clean with some foxing and age-related toning, but remain complete and highly presentable.
Remarks:
This set represents an excellent historical collection and offers a fascinating insight into Victorian humour, politics, and culture. Highly decorative as a group and desirable for collectors of illustrated periodicals.
