Oil painting on canvas titled Langs de Schelde by Victor Simonin (1877-1946), Belgian impressionist landscape from the period 1900-1910, circa 1910, 51.5 × 44.5 cm, signed lower right, sold with frame, original edition, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Victor Simonin attended evening classes at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and the violin class at the Conservatoire at the same time. An accident left him with a disability in his left hand, after which he devoted himself entirely to painting.
Together with, among others, Alfred Bastien, Auguste Oleffe, Maurice Wagemans, Frans Smeers and Albert Pinot, he formed the artists' association 'Le Sillon'.
He painted landscapes but especially still lifes. Through his vigorous and broad painting style he is somewhat related to Guillaume Vogels. He won the A. Oleffe Prize in 1941.
This work - according to the label on the back - was part of the retrospective devoted to him in Brussels.
