Impressionistisch landschap, an oil painting on cardboard by Walter Elst (born 1955, Belgium), dated 1980–1990, measuring 18 x 24 cm (framed to 32 x 38 cm) and hand-signed, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Walter Elst (Ekeren, 1955) is a Belgian painter. At the age of 13 he is sure: “I will become an artist.” Determined, he contacts the painter Leon Lommaert, who lives in Schilde. Until his death in 1978 Walter Elst remained his loyal pupil for 10 years in landscape and portrait painting. During that period they, loaded with sketching and painting materials, traversed the Belgian Kempen together to study and capture the beauty of unspoiled Nature with wonder and admiration.
Thereafter he studied under still life painter Raymond Van Hoeck in Antwerp and was influenced by Petrus Valckx and Willem Dolphyn. Especially the latter will leave a lasting mark on his work. He belongs to the school of the Antwerp fijnschilders (fine painters).
He is mentioned in Belgian art books.
