Description from the seller
Japanese Handcrafted 重箱Jubako – 漆Urushi Lacquer & 蒔絵Maki-e Gold Decoration – Seasonal Landscape – 昭和Showa Era size18×18×18
This is a refined Japanese three-tier 重箱jubako (stacked lacquered food box), crafted from wood and finished with traditional 漆urushi lacquer. The surface is richly decorated with exquisite Maki-e gold decoration, depicting a harmonious landscape that evokes the beauty of Japan’s changing seasons.
The design features iconic motifs such as blooming cherry blossoms (桜sakura), pine trees (松matsu), maple leaves (紅葉momiji), bamboo, and dynamic ocean waves. These elements are carefully arranged to represent both spring and autumn scenery, expressing a poetic transition of seasons—a theme deeply rooted in Japanese aesthetics.
The fine gold detailing, layered composition, and elegant curvature of the box reflect skilled craftsmanship, likely produced during the Showa period (mid-20th century). The subdued black lacquer base enhances the brilliance of the gold maki-e, creating a luxurious yet balanced visual impression.
This piece is not only functional but also highly decorative, suitable as a traditional serving box for special occasions such as New Year (osechi cuisine), or as an artistic display object in an interior setting.
