Some descriptive elements:
"In Undressed, Mario Testino sheds a few layers. Concurrent with the exhibition designed exclusively for the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin, this intimate series explores the notion of nudity in photography while revealing Testino's archives, through shots that transcend the photographer's image and public pose to allow a deeper understanding of his practice and work.
The 50 photographs presented focus on body nudity: they alternately explore and test the traditions and boundaries related to sexuality, gender identity, and fashion. Also tributes to the influence of Helmut Newton, these shots metamorphose into abstract body landscapes, the subjects appearing as pure forms - a bust, a statue.
A highlight of the series, the previously unpublished studio shots of Testino, where an exuberant atmosphere reigns, full of the thrill provoked by nudity and a teasing, mischievous, loving excitement that never slips into the obscene or pornographic.
Testino's models are varied, from models like Kate Moss and Amber Valletta to anonymous androgynous men, photographed individually or in groups. Many intimate moments are captured, sometimes candid, sometimes carefully staged, like this young man shaving the top of a woman's pubic hair in a luxurious bathroom. Following in the wake of SIR, many of these photos can be interpreted as redefining masculine codes, much like Newton who developed his own definition of female beauty.
As emotions, aesthetics, and bodies intertwine, Testino opens a new perspective on his illustrious work. The shots are complemented by an introduction by curator Matthias Harder, an informal conversation with Carine Roitfeld, and a essay by psychiatrist and psychologist Manfred Spitzer that addresses our visual perception of bodies and beauty through the prism of neuroscience. "
