Description from the seller
Beautiful Japanese wooden Chazutsu / tea caddy with hand-carved floral decoration and painted details
ca. 1900
Beautiful traditional Japanese-style wooden tea caddy, known as a Chazutsu, made for the storage of green tea or for use as a decorative tea ceremony object. Meji or Japanse Art Nouveau. The box is crafted from warm-toned wood with an attractive natural grain and a rich aged patina. The domed lid is decorated with an elegant floral design, featuring carved and incised details with painted accents. The decoration shows a charming handmade character, with stylised flowers and leaves arranged across the lid and continuing around the side. The interior is left in natural wood, giving a pleasing contrast to the darker polished exterior. The underside shows visible turning marks and age-related patina, adding to the authentic character of the piece.
A refined decorative object for collectors of Japanese tea ceremony items, Asian antiques, lacquer-style work, wooden boxes, or traditional handcrafted objects.
Condition:
Good antique/vintage condition with visible signs of age and use. Wear to the gilded floral decoration, small scratches, patina, stains to the interior, and natural surface marks to the wood. Please study the photos carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
