Description from the seller
Giuseppe Gheduzzi - Oil on panel
Conditions as shown in the lot photo.
Size without frame: 36x53 cm
Giuseppe Gheduzzi was born in Crespellano (BO) on May 12, 1889. Son of the painter Ugo, from whom he learned, as his brothers Cesare, Mario and Augusto did, the first rudiments of art. He made his debut in Vignola in 1907 with the painting Alpine Landscape. He refined his training in Turin at the Albertina Academy as a pupil of Andrea Marchisio and Paolo Gaidano. After leaving the Academy, he collaborated with his father on the realization of the stage sets for the Teatro Regio. Giuseppe was a skilled landscape painter: he painted views and panoramas of Venetian scenes, of the lakes and the Piedmont valleys and the Ligurian coast. Unlike his brother Cesare, however, he also excelled in interior paintings with figures and in Orientalist themes. His genre scenes and paintings depicting interiors of artisans’ workshops, antique shops, and stables were particularly appreciated by the public and critics. During his life, Giuseppe participated in numerous exhibitions of the Promotrice delle Belle Arti of Turin and of the Circolo degli Artisti of Turin, and he held several solo shows. He died in Turin on May 21, 1957.
