A beautiful and intimate oil painting on canvas by the Dutch artist Louis van der Steen. Van der Steen worked in The Hague and developed a very recognizable, moody style, often focusing on the tranquil beauty of nature.
In this work, titled "Witte paddestoelen" (White Mushrooms), the painter shows his mastery in depicting texture and light. The mushrooms hardly glow against the dark, forested background, giving the painting a mysterious and faithful-to-nature appearance.
