Description from the seller
Rare eighteenth-century liturgical manual – Rome, 1726
Interesting and not uncommon edition of 1726, printed in Rome at the Girolamo Mainardi typography, entitled “Sacerdos ad Altare celebrans in Missa Privata.” Volume in small octavo format (cm 17.5 x 12), collation: pp. (16), 61, (3).
The work is a practical manual intended for priests for the celebration of the private Mass: it contains ritual instructions, liturgical formulas, behavioral guidelines at the altar, and normative references drawn from ecclesiastical tradition. Text in Latin, structured in brief sections for easy consultation.
Complete copy, with contemporary binding in marbled cardboard; normal signs of the passage of time (yellowing, slight browning and traces of use), but overall well preserved and genuine.
Specialist publication for clerical use, often subject to heavy wear and therefore rarely found intact to reach us. Significant testimony of Roman liturgical practice in the early eighteenth century, of interest to collectors and scholars of Church history and liturgy.
Ideal for collections of old religious books or as a representative piece of eighteenth-century Roman printing production.
