Description from the seller
An 80s medicine ball, e.g., from around 1980, is a classic training tool used in schools, sports clubs, and rehabilitation. It features a simple, sturdy construction. It was most often made of thick natural leather or leather-like material stitched with thick thread. Inside, there was a filling of sawdust, sand, or mixtures of materials, which gave it a heavy weight and relatively low resilience. Unlike modern models, it wasn’t perfectly elastic – after being dropped it tended to fall “dead” rather than bounce.
The surface of such a ball was slightly rough, often with visible seams running through the center. Over time, with intensive use, the leather darkened and acquired a characteristic patina. The color scheme was usually subdued – browns, beiges, or dark green.
The weight of medicine balls from that period varied – from about 1 kg to as much as 5–6 kg, depending on the purpose. They were mainly used for strength training, throws, general conditioning, and rehabilitation.
In terms of training feel, they were more “raw” than today’s models – harder, less ergonomic, but very durable. For many people they evoke PE classes in PRL-era schools and the classic approach to physical training.
