The black lacquer and gold-painted natsume, used in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, is a classic example of lacquerware craftsmanship from the Showa period in Japan. The natsume is made with a wooden base and black lacquer, with floral patterns painted on the surface using the gold-painted technique. Some patterns are accented with red, the gold leaf lines are delicate, and the lacquer surface has a warm, lustrous sheen.
