Bronze-brass ceiling chandelier, Netherlands origin, 68 cm deep, 68 cm wide, 80 cm high, with 6 fittings, dating to 1900–1910, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
1st floor
6 arms
45 cm diameter
40 cm high
17th-century version
Material: brass
Status: used
The 17th century marks the introduction of the old Dutch crown and its accompanying globe. In the Dutch chandelier, the S-shaped arms are very characteristic. They no longer jut sideways, but sink inward. The machining of the crown looks smooth and has few divisions. The arms and scrolls of the 17th century can be formed in the shape of a stylized dolphin or snake. At the beginning of the 17th century the shaft loses weight and its function is taken over by the weight of the globe. Because the figures also disappear, the suspension design better matches the crown. In the 17th century the wealthy bourgeoisie also purchase the chandelier. Not only for practical reasons but also for aesthetic considerations.
