ancient headhunter axe of the Ifugao/Bontoc/Kalinga peoples in the Philippines - island of Luzon
The axe was worn tucked into a loincloth.
The blade was sized and shaped specifically to be able to sever a head!
The axe was of course also used in much more harmless functions, such as a kind of pickaxe for ascending the steep mountains, slopes and terraces of Luzon.
This ancient piece also comes from the large collection of Ulrich Kortmann, Dortmund - Germany
