Description from the seller
Q for Basquiat — The Artphabet
Edition 1/10 — 60 x 60 cm
This work is part of The Artphabet, an artistic project developed by the digital artist Cess, in which each letter of the alphabet pays homage to key figures in contemporary art and visual culture.
In this piece, the letter Q transforms into a tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat, reinterpreting his raw, visceral, and profoundly symbolic language. The typography adopts the shape of an expressive mask that evokes both primitive art and the urban iconography characteristic of the artist.
The surface presents an apparently chaotic composition of strokes, symbols, and intense colors — red, yellow, blue, and black — that dialogue with each other, generating a visual tension charged with energy. The eyes, the marked teeth, and the protruding tongue construct an almost totemic figure, halfway between infantile and unsettling.
The pictorial treatment maintains a gestural and imperfect aesthetic, where the lines seem drawn spontaneously, reinforcing the idea of immediacy and authenticity so present in Basquiat's work. The symbols and marks introduce an open narrative, inviting the viewer to a free and emotional interpretation.
The three-dimensionality adds a new contemporary dimension, transferring the artist's pictorial language into the digital sculptural space, where the pictorial matter gains volume and physical presence.
The work has been created entirely digitally in 3D (CGI), handcrafted with special attention to gesture, texture, and composition, achieving an intense, expressive, and highly contemporary aesthetic.
The Artphabet has had wide international reach, being disseminated in numerous design, art, and visual culture media, establishing itself as one of the most prominent artistic typography projects in the recent digital realm.
Cess is an artist specialized in digital art, CGI, and artificial intelligence, with an established track record in the creative sector, having collaborated with international brands such as Apple, Google, Prada, Vogue, and MTV, among others.
The work is presented in high-quality Giclée print on poly/cotton canvas, guaranteeing excellent color reproduction, texture, and the expressive strength of the original digital.
