Description from the seller
Eliza Kołodziej (b. 2000, Poland)
“Empty Bench”, 2025
Oil on canvas
61 × 46 cm (unframed, ready to hang)
An empty bench with an ashtray becomes the central focus of this quiet urban scene.
The composition is built from simple elements – a wooden bench, a wall, and the soft shadow of flowers crossing the surface. At first everything appears calm and stable. The tension emerges in the details: the cigarette drawing on the ashtray, bold and almost playful, suggesting a recent presence that is no longer there.
The contrast between the solid, carefully rendered bench and the shifting, fragile shadow introduces a subtle instability. What should feel ordinary begins to carry weight. The space is empty, but not neutral – it holds a trace of something that has just disappeared.
The painting captures a moment where absence becomes the main subject, turning a familiar place into something slightly uneasy.
The painting is ready to hang and will be shipped in secure, multi-layered packaging with an insured, tracked delivery and a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity.
