MiLo – “Silent Witness”

Silent Witness presents a reduced, almost archetypal face, constructed through bold black lines set against warm, muted tones. The composition balances simplicity and intensity: the eyes hold the viewer, while the elongated forms and asymmetry create a quiet tension within the surface.

Rather than describing a specific person, the work moves toward something more universal. The face becomes a symbol—direct yet ambiguous—allowing space for interpretation while maintaining a strong visual presence. Subtle variations in the background reveal the hand of the artist, adding depth beneath the seemingly minimal structure.

About the artist
MiLo (1976) is an Amsterdam-based artist with a background in photography and art studies. Over the years he has sold more than 800 original works, now residing in private collections, hotels, restaurants, and offices across Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

His practice spans from early Pollock-inspired action paintings to precise geometric compositions, and to the layered, scratched surfaces he often explores today. In his current work, MiLo investigates the tension between construction and erosion, layering and scratching the painted surface until traces emerge.

Each work forms part of an ongoing exploration of abstraction, memory, and transformation, making MiLo one of the most prolific and recognizable contemporary artists on Catawiki.
