Medsan, Edo Donkey Kong (江戸のドンキーコング) - Hand Signed - UNIQUE WORK, a 40 × 40 cm giclée created in 2026 in France, with a pop culture theme and original edition.
Description from the seller
UNIQUE EDITION 1/1 — ONLY ONE COPY IN THE WORLD.
With this square-format artwork, Medsan orchestrates a spectacular, nostalgic mashup, merging the world of retro gaming and classic Hollywood cinema with the aesthetics of feudal Japan. This splash reinterprets the legendary arcade game Donkey Kong (and its obvious King Kong references) through the prism of a textured ukiyo-e print, imitating the richness of oil painting in impasto.
The composition is distinguished by a vertigo-inducing low-angle perspective. The famous red metal beam structure from the video game is cleverly replaced here by a traditional, intricate wooden scaffolding, reminiscent of pagoda construction. At its summit, a giant dark-furred gorilla with a ferocious expression hurls heavy wooden kegs (taru) downward. In the foreground, defying the monster, stands the hero: a carpenter from the Edo period (echoing the original Jumpman/Mario character). Clad in a red distinctive jacket and sporting a chignon (chonmage), he tightly grips a large wooden mallet, the iconic weapon for destroying obstacles in the game.
The visual impact of the work is enhanced by the contrast between the geometric rigor of the scaffolding and the dynamism of the sky. The latter, a bright blue, is worked with thick, swirling brushstrokes that heighten the sense of vertigo and action. In the upper right corner, the traditional cartouche houses the artist’s signature in katakana (メドサン), completing the cultural illusion.
A playful, geeky piece, artistically very accomplished, ideal for adding a narrative, pop, and richly textured dimension to a contemporary interior or to the space of a video game culture collector.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a gathering of artists around a living, plural contemporary creation. Established as a true artistic production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. At his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive research, blending abstract art, art brut, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, sharing a common artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
