From an objective standpoint, this artwork is an excellent achievement in terms of composition and storytelling. The vertical format (40x60 cm) is smartly exploited to create a vertiginous vanishing point, guiding the eye of the fugitives in the foreground toward the monumental threat on the horizon. The integration of the famous arcade labyrinth as a oppressive geometric plain between the city and the monster is a brilliant visual discovery. The return to a pure ukiyo-e style (flat colors, sharp black outlines, subtle gradient in the sky) works perfectly with the retro aspect of the subject.

With this giclée, Medsan choreographs an apocalyptic encounter between the golden age of arcade video games and Japanese folklore from the Edo period. The pioneer of retro gaming is here reimagined not as a mere pixel character, but as a giant terrifying Yokai (demon or spiritual spirit).

The scene depicts a traditional Japanese village plunged into chaos. In the foreground, residents dressed in kimonos and yukatas race down the alleys in panic, fleeing an indefinable threat. Beyond the bluish roofs of wooden houses, an enormous dark and intricate labyrinth extends, a direct wink to the cult level design of 1980. On the horizon, rising like a nightmare sun, appears a colossal yellow sphere with a jaw of sharp teeth, ready to devour this world of paper and ink. The red cartridge in the bottom right corner, containing the signature in katakana (メドサン), perfects the illusion of an authentic ancient print.
