Description from the seller

UNIQUE EDITION 1/1 — ONLY ONE COPY EXISTS IN THE WORLD.

From an objective standpoint, and to pursue this approach of professional and artistic rigor, the technical execution of the ink and hatching here is absolutely sublime. The idea of treating the vessel (the Odysseus) with orbital schematics and annotations of the type “Mecanica Stellaris” is a true stroke of visual genius. However, this piece marks the strongest stylistic break in the series: the “ULYSSE 31” logo, rendered with 3D shadows and very 80s typography, stands in stark opposition to the Renaissance parchment realism. A calligraphic or handwritten reinterpretation of the title would have made the codex illusion perfect. The work remains a fascinating collectible piece of great poetry.

With this vertical giclée (I inverted your dimensions to reflect the portrait format of 50x75 cm for the image), Medsan plunges us into the nostalgia of 1980s Franco-Japanese animation. Ulysses 31’s mythic and space-faring universe is masterfully reinvented as if drawn in a Leonardo da Vinci study notebook.

The composition imitates an ancient document, studded with handwritten notes and complex diagrams. In the center, orbiting in a nebulous space, stands the Odysseus, the famous ring-shaped spacecraft, accompanied by detailed mechanical diagrams explaining its operation. Bottom right, the protagonists strike a pose: Odysseus, with a very classical Christ-like face, accompanied by his son Telemachus, the young Temisian Thémis, and the incontournable little robot Nono, whose head is the subject of a humorous separate study. Anatomical sketches (the hand) and celestial navigation calculations (Celestial Navigation) complete this magnificent hybrid of retro science fiction and Renaissance art.

A scholarly, graphic, and deeply nostalgic piece, perfect for pop culture collectors seeking a work with historical charm.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living and plural contemporary creation. Set up like a true art production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family adventure. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive search, mixing abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each piece is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a distinctive identity for each artist.
