Le Monde de la Mer, an illustrated edition by Alfred Frédol in French, original language, published by Hachette et Cie, bound in demi cuir with gilded spine and edges, 632 pages on nature, includes 21 colour steel plates and 400 wood engravings by P. Lackerbauer, in good condition, from 1865.

A very beautiful work, complete with its 21 color hors-texte plates, very decorative and magnificent for some
Included notably:
- A superb scene of crustaceans (lobster, shrimp, crab) in their natural habitat, rich in detail and color.
- A spectacular representation of the “Bouyer’s Octopus,” showing a giant squid attacking a ship, an iconic scene in the nineteenth-century scientific imagination.
- Detailed color plates of the underwater world... Mollusks, Jellyfish, Parasite, Duvernoy’s Synapte, shell-less mollusks, Annelids, etc..
The collection is also completed by numerous wood engravings in the text.
Format: 28 x 18 cm, 632 pages
Half-leather binding with ornate spine and gilt title, all edges gilt
Interior correct and clean
Good overall condition for the period, with the usual foxing.
Some wear along the edges of the first pages.
Plates well-presented and visually attractive.
