Five-object Hofbauer Byrdes lead crystal set from West Germany, dating to 1970–1980, in red, consisting of a 26 cm high, 11.5 cm diameter vase; three wine glasses at 14 cm high and 6.5 cm in diameter; and a footed dish at 8.5 cm high and 13.5 cm in diameter, in good condition with minor signs of wear and no cracks.
Description from the seller
For sale I offer a luxury set of lead crystal glass (24% PbO) from the renowned German Hofbauer glassworks (Elisabethhütte).
The items come from the iconic series “Byrdes” (also known as “The Ruby”), which is highly prized by collectors worldwide.
A distinctive feature of this collection is the deep facets and medallions in the intense ruby color, in which bird motifs are precisely engraved (ruby cut to clear).
The set includes:
1. Vase
height approx. 26 cm, diameter 11.5 cm
2. Wine glasses (3 pcs)
Height: 14 cm, diameter 6.5 cm
3. Footed bowl
Height: 8.5 cm, diameter: 13.5 cm
The crystals are in good preservation.
No cracks. Normal signs of use consistent with age.
The vase and the bowl have a slightly different shade of red than the wine glasses (most likely a different production year).
The cut is sharp and beautifully disperses light. These are authentic pieces from West Germany (FRG) which are no longer produced.
