Description from the seller
Large decorative majolica plate (47.5 cm) signed G. Barile Albissola, entirely handmade in the renowned Ligurian tradition of Albissola, historic center of postwar Italian ceramics. It is a piece with strong stage presence, with a wavy edge and richly molded relief, decorated with baroque motifs in cobalt blue and gold yellow tones, with polychrome details applied by brush.
The central cartouche hosts a figurative scene of classical taste, probably inspired by mythological or pastoral subjects, depicting a couple with a child immersed in a natural landscape. The stroke is free, painterly, typical of Albissola artistic productions from the central decades of the 20th century. The entire composition is framed by decorative cartouches containing small landscape glimpses, which further enrich the aesthetic value of the work.
On the back is the hand signature “G. Barile Albissola”, a guarantee of artisanal authenticity. Production attributable approximately to the years 1950–1970, a period of great artistic ferment for Ligurian ceramics, often linked to experimentation between art and design.
The plate is in good overall condition, with slight signs of aging consistent with its age, no obvious breaks. Vivid glaze and well-preserved decorations.
A striking decorative object, ideal for collectors or for interiors with character, it represents an authentic example of Italian artisanal craftsmanship of the 20th century.
