Elise Eekhout's Velvet Skin (2023) is an original mixed-media acrylic painting on canvas, 80 × 80 cm, hand-signed, in warm gold, bronze, yellow, white and multi-colour tones, depicting a nude female figure in a modern style, with a certificate of origin and sold directly by the artist.
Description from the seller
In this artwork, inspired by a poem by Joop Alleblas that celebrates our skin as our natural shield, the artist embraces the power of authenticity. The single-line drawing, executed in warm gold and bronze tones, depicts a full-figured woman confidently embodying her own beauty. In a world where a slim beauty ideal is often the norm, and where people often opt for interventions such as Botox, plastic surgery, tattoos and piercings, this work invites us to stay true to yourself and to embrace your own beauty. Each wrinkle and every scar tells a story of proven service and unwavering strength.
The background – a texture of wrinkled skin, subtly decorated with faintly tattooed flowers and enriched with the words of the poem – forms an intimate ode to the courage to embrace yourself. This artwork reminds us that true beauty lies in the spontaneity and honesty of our body.
Exhibited in Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Munich and Milan.
This work is part of the series ‘Subtle Nudes’ by Elise Eekhout and is an abstract translation of a female nude, in which each facet reveals its own hidden beauty. Executed with, among others, Windsor & Newton and Amsterdam Pro - acrylic, the work maintains a loose, expressive style that the artist herself made her own during her studies and personal quest at St. Joost Academy (Breda). For a deeper insight into her vision and development, I kindly invite you to read her biography below.
The varying light incidence throughout the day ensures that the copper details stand out more or less. As a result, the painting changes over the course of the day.
