Born in 1936 in Soloba, Mali. Died in Bamako in April 2016.
From Malick Sidibé's work we first know the reportage photographs, taken at house parties organized by young people fond of music and freedom as the country prepared for independence.
In 1962, he opened "Studio Malick" in Bamako.
The studio portraits would constitute the major part of his work.

Noticed at the first Bamako Photography Meetings, he was exhibited at the Fondation Cartier in Paris and then in major galleries and museums around the world. He received the Hasselblad Award in 2003 and the Golden Lion in 2007.
