San Paolo Eremita Contaminato, a 1995 oil on canvas from Italy in the Metropolismo movement by Antonio Sciacca, 140 × 100 cm, an original work signed by hand.
Description from the seller
"San Paolo Eremita Contaminato" (1995)
Oil on canvas - 140 x 100 cm - Corrente del Metropolismo
This imposing work by Antonio Sciacca, dated 1995 and part of the Metropolismo movement, is a powerful fusion between sacred iconography and contemporary culture.
The painting depicts Saint Paul the Hermit with dramatic realism: the saint is portrayed in spiritual ecstasy, with a flowing beard and gaze turned toward the sky. The mystical atmosphere, intensified by the twilight, is immediately "contaminated" by anachronistic elements typical of Metropolismo.
Elements of Contamination:
Blue Rosary: Instead of the traditional rosary, the saint holds a necklace of electric blue, glossy pearls, a symbol of modern aesthetics and consumerism that bursts into the sacred.
Stylized Drops: The upper part is dotted with deep blue drops with almost plastic rendering, a pop element that contrasts with the figurative scene.
On the left a cross is glimpsed, while in the upper right corner appears the crow bringing bread, classic elements reinterpreted through a contemporary sensibility.
Sciacca uses his figurative mastery to explore how religious archetypes are filtered and reworked by metropolitan and media-saturated society. The work is a significant example of his Metropolista period.
The work, recognized and appreciated internationally, is accompanied by an authentic signed photograph of the master beside the work, along with a guarantee certificate. It is offered with professional, trackable, insured shipping."
