Description from the seller

Bronze statue of a faun with panpipes. A reproduction of the Greek god, often depicted by Greek statues with goat legs and a human torso.

The faun was a deity who, according to myth, did not reside on Olympus, but in the woods, and he frightened anyone who disturbed him with his terrifying voice. The god of the fields and pastures is at the center of several legends about his origins as well. One telling makes him the son of Zeus and the nymph Callisto.

He represented nature as a whole, for better or for worse. God of fertility and unrestrained freedom, he was credited with the birth of the flute. It is said that the nymph Syrinx, to escape him, invoked the help of the Naiads and was transformed by them into a marsh reed. The faun, hearing that sound made by the wind’s breath, decided to create the instrument.
