Description from the seller
Martinus Spyridon Johannes Lodewijk (Rotterdam, April 30, 1939) is a Dutch comic book author and advertising illustrator. His most famous creation is Agent 327.
First years
Lodewijk was rather sickly as a child and was therefore forced to stay home a lot. At home he enjoyed drawing and developed his talent. After he left secondary school in 1957, he focused on drawing and writing comic strips. At eighteen he sold his first story: Lodewijk Pedaal, which, however, was never published. He had more success with two comic booklets for the series Babel and Knetterton. In addition to his comic work, he also produced cartoons, among others for magazines such as De Mascotte and Bolero. In 1957 and 1958 he drew a dozen spaceflight strips for Uitgeverij ATH. For ATH in 1958 he also made six strips with pirates as the subject. The first four appeared under the title Arent Brandt and the last two as Captain Kidd. Lodewijk broke through properly only in 1959 when he, for Het Parool, drew the strip Frank, de Vliegende Hollander originally created by Piet Wijn. But Lodewijk did not continue his career as a comics artist for long. Not long after his involvement with Frank, de Vliegende Hollander he devoted himself for the next six years entirely to advertising commissions.
