Jokic was drafted in 2014 by the Denver Nuggets, for whom he functions as a center. In the 2018/2019 season he was selected for the NBA All-Star Game for the first time. Later in the season he helped the Denver Nuggets reach the Conference Finals semifinals. Together with veteran Paul Millsap and buddy Jamal Murray, with whom Jokic specialized in the pick and roll, they were defeated by the Portland Trail Blazers in a deciding game 7. Led by Damian Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazers advanced to the finals.

Jokić grew into the Nuggets’ big star and was named NBA MVP in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons. His versatility was particularly valued. Jokic did not excel in just one aspect of basketball, but posted high statistics across several areas simultaneously (points, rebounds, and assists). He led his team in 2022/23 to the first title in the Western Conference and thus the first NBA Finals in club history. He shone there as well. Jokic and the Nuggets were too strong for the Miami Heat with a 4–1 series victory and became NBA champions for the first time. The Serbian himself was chosen as the best player of the finals. Jokic in the 2022/23 season became the first player ever to record the most points (600), the most rebounds (269), and the most assists (190) of anyone in the playoffs. In addition, he completed ten triple-doubles during the playoffs, which was also a record.
