Original drawing by Albert Paul BESNARD 1849-1934. French painter, Prix de Rome. Study for "profane painting". Signed and titled.
Created around 1918.
Subject dimensions with mat 19 x 15 cm.
Frame dimensions 32 x 25.6 cm.
Private collection, purchased in Paris.
Good condition.
A student of Alexandre Cabanel, Albert Besnard began at the Salon at nineteen and won the Grand Prix de Rome at twenty-five. He became one of the most prominent figures in the Parisian art world. After his stay in Rome, another in London and a few years in Paris, he discovers Algeria. In 1914, Besnard was named director of the Villa Medici, then in 1922 director of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
