Eugene Robert Richee (1896–1972) was an influential American photographer of the classical Hollywood era, known especially for his iconic studio portraits for Paramount Pictures. As the studio’s chief portrait photographer, he significantly shaped the visual image of many film stars in the 1920s and 1930s.
Particularly famous are the photographs of Marlene Dietrich, whom Richee staged with a lighting approach that was unusual for the time. His photographs are characterized by strong chiaroscuro, precisely placed highlights, and sculptural modeling of the face.
