Description from the seller

Ferdinando Silvani (Italy, 1823-1899)
"Venice" oil on panel 19.5x30.5 cm signed bottom right.
33x44 cm with the frame.
The painting is in its current state and requires cleaning.
The frame is original and should be restored or replaced.
The frame visible in the photo is included for guidance and is not an integral part of the work. Any damage to the frame will not constitute a valid reason for complaint or cancellation of the order.

Ferdinando Silvani attended the Ducal Academy of Parma where he received solid training in drawing before turning to engraving. He also trained in chalcography, notably with Paolo Toschi, with whom he collaborated on the etching translation of the works of Correggio and Parmigianino. Silvani spent a long time in Venice, where he created works of great beauty, depicting splendid views of the lagoon city. On a small tablet, a typical portal is reflected in the calm waters of the lagoon; a boat is lulled by a clear light that the painter Silvani, with a swift brushstroke, knew how to render.
