About Hans Kinkel
The German collector and photographer Hans Kinkel left behind one of the most significant private art estates of German modernism and the expressionist art of the 20th century. His collection encompassed works by important artists from classical modernism to postwar art and uniquely connected photography, visual art, and art-historical documents. Together with Klapheck, he published the Catalogue raisonné of graphic prints 1977 - 1980. After his death, a substantial portion of the estate was presented in the exhibition “From Kirchner to Baselitz – A Century's Heritage: The Hans Kinkel Collection” at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. The exhibition made the extraordinary quality and art-historical relevance of the collection accessible to a broad public and established Hans Kinkel's estate as an important testament to German art and cultural history.
