Pocket watch, reference 102942, dating to the 1850–1900 period, with a manual hand-wound movement, 37 mm gold case (18K) in a full hunter case, weighing 37 g and in working order with visible wear.
Description from the seller
This is a classic gold pocket watch from the late 19th century (likely produced between 1880 and 1900). The watch has a very luxurious appearance due to its ornate dial and "full hunter" case (a case featuring a protective front cover).
Hallmarks and Material
The inside of the case is clearly marked with 18K inside an oval, indicating the case is made of 18-karat gold. Above the "18K" mark, there is a small hallmark (a woman's head, specifically "Helvetia"). This is the official Swiss hallmark for 18K gold used from 1880 onwards.
The Movement
This timepiece features a "bridge movement" (distinguished by its U-shaped bridges). It is a mechanical movement with a lever escapement. The presence of blued screws and visible rubies (jewels) indicates a high-quality caliber. There is no clear brand name on the movement; this was common for Swiss watches intended for export to jewelers who would then place their own branding on the dial.
Dial and Aesthetics
The watch features a stunning gold "guilloché" dial accented with classic Roman numerals.
Specifications & Condition
Total Weight: 37 grams.
Estimated Gold Weight: Since both the inner and outer covers are 18K gold, the net gold weight is estimated between 14 and 17 grams.
Condition: The pocket watch is in working order.
