Description from the seller
Marc Gonz
resistance.
In front of one of his paintings, we don’t look at an image. We face an inner landscape — a tactile memory we didn’t know we carried within us.
The way Marc Gonz works consists of burying layer after layer; in this process of burial, a face is formed, part of the disorder and error, to find a harmony. Marc Gonz’s works, through matter and color, present us with a distorted version of reality. The brutality and density of the brushstroke show us a visceral, vibrant, sometimes grotesque and primal work, but at the same time it expresses deep emotions, which refer us to the ancestral and the spiritual, moving toward the essence without artifices, an excavation of the soul. With a mix of abstraction and expressionism, they create a transformation of the human form, where its meaning is transcended. All of this gives us an idea of his complexity and guides us toward the deepest parts of the unconscious. The artist himself makes his own paintings, achieving a technique of impasto in which he recreates in the density of the paint, shaping large, overflowing pictorial masses. The volume of the brushstrokes turns the works into almost sculptural pieces, creating microcosms that adopt their own identity when we approach.
