Marco Ercoli, Dittico del silenzio, oil painting, original edition signed by hand, 2025, 50 x 30 cm, Italy, in the Caravaggisti style, depicting a portrait, sold directly by the artist.
Description from the seller
Title: Diptych of Silence
Work 1: Studio Cena di Emmaus
Work 2: Portrait
Technique: oil on canvas
Dimensions: 60x50 cm
Year: 2022 - 2025
Diptych of Silence brings together two autonomous yet deeply related works, bound by a shared interior tension and a pictorial search focused on human presence, contemplation, and emotional suspension.
One of the two works stems from a study of the face of Christ taken from Caravaggio's Cena di Emmaus. The reference is not reproduced in a cumulatively citational or illustrative key, but reworked in an intimate, personal way: what emerges is not the narration of the Evangelical episode, but its more intimate and contemplative dimension. The lowered face, immersed in warm light and a vibrant background, preserves the sense of mystery and interiority characteristic of the great painting tradition, yet transposed into a contemporary sensibility.
The second work, with its frontal, steady gaze, introduces a different but complementary presence. The sky in the background broadens the perception of inner space, while the stillness of the face conveys a sense of quiet, waiting, and concentration.
