Oil painting on canvas signed by the French artist Marcel Roche (1890 – 1959).
Marcel Roche was a French painter, engraver and illustrator associated with the Paris School. Although he is known for his portraits and landscapes, he produced several still lifes characterized by a solid figurative style and a vibrant use of color.
The work depicts a still life with a green glazed ceramic jug and some fruit (probably apples or tomatoes) arranged on a white tablecloth, elements recurring in his repertoire.
The brushstrokes are thick and define volumes decisively, typical of early 20th-century French Post-Impressionist painting.
The painting appears to have been recently cleaned.
The frame is contemporaneous with the painting.
