Hello! If you are looking for a distinctive and unconventional painting created with noble technique and feel drawn to the mysterious and dignified world of nature, you’re in the right place. I am an experienced artist and painter from Poland. I am strongly inspired by Japanese aesthetics and natural history illustrations from bygone eras. My paintings fit perfectly not only private interiors but also spaces such as boutique hotels, cafes, offices, beauty clinics, or studios. For every work I attach a certificate of authenticity.

My direct inspiration is the Japanese nihonga technique. Paintings are made on canvas or paper. The paints are ground by hand from Japanese mineral pigments suihi and homemade glue. I use brushes in the Asian style, commonly associated with calligraphy, for applying the paint. The white paint comes from gofun – Japanese oyster shell powder. I also paint sumi ink based on water. The gilded fragments in my paintings are shagai metal – metal leaf imitating gold. These metallic elements beautifully reflect light, even on cloudy days, and make the painting look slightly different from every angle.

Vivid lilies with intensely red petals emerge from a dark background, contrasting with the bright gold surface at the center of the composition. The flat, decorative treatment of form and the distinct outline evoke the aesthetics of Japanese woodblock prints, while antiqued gold gives the work a ceremonial, luxurious character. The bold combination of red, black, and gold creates a composition with strong expressiveness, balancing between botanical realism and ornamental stylization.

Hanna Werkowicz (born 1986, Warsaw) is a graduate of the Warsaw Theatrical Academy and a school of makeup artistry. She has also worked as an illustrator, a creator of props for advertising and film, and has created about 500 artistic objects for clients around the world. The artist’s main inspirations are Japanese aesthetics and old natural history illustrations, with animals and plants at the center of her artistic interests. In her works, beyond the external form, the artist aims to capture the spirit of a plant or animal, paying homage to the pristine beauty of nature. Her paintings achieve a balance between the decorative form and the raw pigment, giving them a calm, contemplative character.
