Stijn Peeters, Postbode Joseph Roulin, an etching (Ets) in a limited edition from 2017, 18 × 15 cm, hand-signed, in excellent condition, produced by Galerie in the Netherlands.
Description from the seller
Stijn Peeters (1957) identifies with Van Gogh’s commitment to the vulnerable in society. Vincent looked to illustrations from English magazines for that. In turn, Stijn Peeters sought out those originals and the translations of them in Van Gogh’s work. He found the spitters, wood-scrapers, fire-stokers, and sack-bearing mine workers’ wives. The scenes with these figures on the fringes of society he copied into Van Gogh and also translated to contemporary issues. He made this etching after Van Gogh’s portrait of mailman Joseph Roulin. From his period of work he produced a magazine called Ezel, printed in a limited edition. The buyer receives a copy of this issue with the work.
