Herbert Hooijkaas - Cigarette box - Silverplated - Genre scenes

Stylish Dutch cigarette case made in the first half of the 20th century. The box catches the eye with an incredibly detailed genre scene on the lid, kept in the spirit of Jan Steen's painting. It depicts a joyful feast in a rural setting, executed in embossed relief technique. The sides of the case are adorned with an elegant, finely embossed floral motif, which adds a noble character to the whole piece. The item is silver-plated, as evidenced by a stamped signature with the number 90, characteristic of high-quality Dutch wares.
