Description from the seller

Jacob Petit teacup with saucer — hand-painted with an intense blue background
France, mid-19th century

Important and elegant antique teacup from the famous French manufacturer Jacob Petit, one of the most recognizable and decorative names in 19th-century French porcelain.

The piece is made in the characteristic Jacob Petit style: a sinuous, scenographic form, an intense deep blue background, rich gilding, and refined hand-painted floral decoration.

The decoration stands out for its painterly liveliness: small hand-painted floral bouquets embellish both the cup and the saucer, while the gilded ornaments enhance the relief and dynamism of the form.

The elegant silhouette with a shaped edge and decorative handle fully reflects the aesthetics of French Romanticism of the mid-19th century.
