Renata Giannelli’s MELA is a self-supporting, beige and white contemporary sculpture (35 x 35 x 35 cm, 6 kg) built from iron wire, hemp fibre paper pulp and gold leaf, illuminated by 120 LED points powered via USB and hand-signed, delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
Description from the seller
Luminous sculpture created through an organic interweaving of tangled iron wire, traversed by 120 LED lights that animate its internal structure. On the metal mesh, hemp-fiber paper pulp has been poured, and during the drying and oxidation process it generated a rough, vibrating surface rich in material stratifications and transparencies.
The light, filtering through solids and voids, builds a evolving pattern of shadows and reflections, transforming the sculpture into a living, atmospheric presence. Irregular inserts of gold leaf further amplify the luminous perception, creating precious flashes that emerge from the raw material.
The project stems from the meeting of two apparently antithetical elements: iron — cold, rigid and structural — and paper — soft, warm and fragile. From their fusion a new expressive, organic and metamorphic matter takes shape, in which the hardness of metal is progressively softened by the presence of fiber, while the paper gains strength and plastic tension.
The structure is self-supporting. The LED lighting is powered via USB output, allowing versatile placement in both domestic and exhibition spaces. It is shipped in rigid packaging and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
