This is a yellow alabaster box with a metal lid, used as a decorative object or container.

On the metal band of the lid there is a warranty mark reading “Ottone garantito.” At the bottom is the mark of Alabastro Scaglione, an Italian company known for working this translucent stone in Volterra.

In that period, the alabaster industry in Volterra underwent modernization and strong export activity, characterized by the use of marks that guaranteed the authenticity of the material (often indicated as "Italian Stone") used to enhance the product abroad, distinguishing natural alabaster from plastic or resin imitations spread at the time.
