Description from the seller
Pieter Vierhout, (1957, in Almelo)
Paintings, such as landscapes, river-, forest- and cityscapes.
They show, in painting terms, a single natural-looking composition.
All captured in their local tonalities—ranging from the fresh green of the Dutch meadows, the vivid color of the Mediterranean area to the softly tempered light in Provence. Mood and color are the most important elements in his work.
His painting technique is mastered; it is admirable how Pieter Vierhout continually seeks the right color touch and rhythm in handling the brushstroke and the palette knife; this gives a distinctive puncture to the painting. Bold and expressive in conception.
All in all they are atmospheric and colorful paintings, in which light receives a special emphasis. It conveys an impressionistic feel.
Pieter Vierhout gladly lets himself be inspired by the landscape, including bodies of water, which testifies to a wholly personal viewpoint.
He continues along the path of abstraction, whereby recognizability is not compromised. That may seem odd in our time of neo-figurativism, but it does reflect a phase in the artist’s individual development.
Pieter Vierhout himself says that he feels drawn to nature and is thereby inspired using oil paint. He believes it is beautiful to slightly exaggerate situations. It must be strong in composition with brighter color than reality.
Pieter studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Groningen.
Sheet size: 30 x 21.5 cm. Inside passe-partout: 29 x 21 cm.
