Description from the seller

Luba/Hemba fetish statuette
DR Congo
Height: 21 cm
Period: early 20th century
Materials: wood, pigments
Provenance: former Pierre Loos collection - Belgium

We have here a very beautiful and ancient Luba fetish figure from the early 20th century, seated on a stool whose shape is very similar to that of the finely carved seats visible in the last photograph. This fetish carried several magical charges (bishimba) on the top of its head and underneath.

In the eleventh black-and-white photograph one can see a statue made by the same hand. (ex-collection Edgar Beer - Brussels, 1960s - photo credit: JSTOR).

Careful, insured delivery with tracking number.
